What are dermal fillers?
A dermal filler is a laboratory cross-linked form of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. This gel holds water well and is placed into areas where volume has been lost or where structural support is needed. In Türkiye only products registered as medical devices with CE marking and Ministry of Health registration are used. Different areas call for different gel densities: softer products for the lips, firmer and more supportive gels for the cheekbones and jawline.
Which areas are assessed?
The most commonly treated regions are the cheekbones, the tear trough beneath the eye, the nasolabial folds, the fine lines around the mouth, lip hydration and subtle lip volume, the chin and jawline, and hollowing of the temples. Fillers may also be used on body areas such as the back of the hands.
How does it work?
The injected gel creates volume within the tissue layer where it sits and binds surrounding water, giving the area support. Over time the body's own hyaluronidase enzyme gradually breaks it down, so the effect is not permanent. Depending on the density of the product, the region treated and individual metabolism, results typically last between eight and eighteen months.
How the session goes
Planning
The face is assessed both at rest and in movement. We distinguish whether the concern is genuine volume loss, tissue descent or reduced bony support. Photographs may be taken and priorities agreed together. The aim is not to change your face but to balance its proportions.
The procedure
The skin is cleansed with antiseptic; most products contain lidocaine and a topical anaesthetic cream may be added. Depending on the area, either a needle or a blunt-tipped cannula is used — the cannula is preferred in the under-eye and mid-face region to reduce the risk of vessel injury. The procedure takes 20 to 40 minutes.
What to expect afterwards
Mild swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising are common in the first 24 to 72 hours and are temporary. Swelling is more noticeable after lip treatment, and the final result settles over about two weeks. Cold application, keeping the head elevated and avoiding pressure on the area are recommended on the first day. A review appointment is arranged two to four weeks later.
Who should avoid it
Fillers are not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when there is active infection, inflamed acne or a cold sore at the treatment site, in people with known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, in uncontrolled autoimmune disease, or in bleeding disorders. Anyone who has previously received a permanent filler in the same area needs additional assessment.
Expectations and follow-up
Filler aims to restore some of the support that has been lost — not to reshape the face. Planning therefore proceeds step by step: focusing on one area per session, assessing the result two weeks later and, if needed, leaving a second stage for another appointment is the safer route. The product name, batch number and volume used are recorded in your file. The effect fades gradually, and depending on area and product a reassessment is made between eight and eighteen months. Repeatedly placing large volumes in the same area is not advised if a natural appearance is the goal.
The choice of area, product density and quantity is determined only through a face-to-face examination; planning is never done remotely.
Aftercare
- Apply cold compresses intermittently on the first day.
- Do not press or massage the treated area.
- Avoid exercise, sauna and steam rooms for 24 hours.
- Postpone facial massage and salon skincare for one week.
- Contact the clinic immediately for severe pain, colour change or visual disturbance.
- Attend the review appointment within two to four weeks.
Frequently asked about this treatment
Swelling is most noticeable in the first 24 to 72 hours and varies with the area. It is greater after lip treatment and settles substantially within three to seven days. The result takes about two weeks to settle fully, which is why we assess it at week two rather than in the first days.
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase where necessary. This matters not only for aesthetic dissatisfaction but as a safety option in urgent situations such as a vascular complication. Permanent fillers offer no such reversal, which is why they are not used at the clinic.
No. The under-eye region is anatomically delicate. Filler may not be appropriate in people prone to fluid retention, with lower-lid fat herniation or very thin skin, where the result can look puffy or bluish. Suitability is determined only by examination.
