What is mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy involves a large number of very small-volume injections into the middle layer of the skin. The solution is prepared according to individual needs and commonly contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin complexes, amino acids, minerals and antioxidants. The technique was described in France in the 1950s and is used today to support skin quality, in hair loss, and in the appearance of localised cellulite.

The aim of facial mesotherapy

The aim is not to add volume. What is targeted is the skin's capacity to hold water, its luminosity and its overall tissue quality. For that reason mesotherapy is usually planned not on its own but as part of a whole that includes sun protection and a consistent skincare routine.

How does it work?

There are two mechanisms. The first is direct nourishment: the ingredients reach the layer where skin cells are active. The second is micro-stimulation: the tiny controlled injury created by the needle activates repair mechanisms and fibroblast activity. A course of several sessions is normally needed before the effect becomes clear; a single session should not be expected to produce lasting change.

How the session goes

Preparation

Skin type, hydration level, pore structure and the presence of pigmentation or acne are assessed, and the composition of the solution is chosen accordingly. The skin is cleansed; for those with higher sensitivity, topical anaesthetic cream can be applied for about twenty minutes.

The procedure

Very fine needles deliver injections a few millimetres apart across the treatment area. A facial session lasts roughly 20 to 30 minutes. After an initial course of four to six sessions, maintenance sessions are typically planned every three to six months.

What to expect afterwards

Redness, small raised bumps and pinpoint marks are expected immediately after treatment and settle within a few hours. Small bruises may last a few days. We advise no make-up on the day, gentle cleansing and daily sun protection. Results appear gradually as the course progresses.

Who should avoid it

Mesotherapy is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when there is active infection, eczema or a cold sore in the area, in people allergic to any component of the solution, in uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune disease, in bleeding disorders, or during active cancer treatment. Blood-thinning medication increases the chance of bruising and is reviewed at the examination.

Expectations and follow-up

Mesotherapy is not a procedure that transforms the skin in one session; its effect emerges as repeated small stimuli accumulate. Taking photographs before the course begins therefore allows the result to be judged by comparison rather than impression. The composition used and the dates of each session are recorded in your file. Once the course is complete, maintaining the change depends largely on daily skincare and sun protection. Where those steps are not sustained, maintenance sessions do not deliver what is expected — the treatment complements a skincare routine rather than replacing it.

The composition of the solution and the number of sessions are decided individually after a skin examination.

Aftercare

  • No make-up on the day of treatment.
  • Cleanse gently with lukewarm water for 24 hours.
  • Pause peels, retinol and acid products for 48 hours.
  • Avoid sauna, steam rooms and intense exercise for 24 hours.
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning.
  • Keep to the intervals set out in your course plan.
