Why treat the masseter?

The masseter is the strong muscle that powers chewing. When it is overactive — through clenching (bruxism) or genetics — it thickens: the lower face looks wide and angular, often with morning jaw and temple pain.

How it works

Botulinum toxin partly reduces the muscle's contraction force. Over time its bulk decreases, softening the lower facial line and often easing clenching-related complaints. The effect becomes clear within 2–4 weeks.

The procedure

The muscle borders are mapped by examination and the injection points marked accordingly. It takes 10–15 minutes and you return to normal activity the same day.

Who is it not suitable for?

Not performed in pregnancy or breastfeeding, in neuromuscular junction disorders, with active infection at the site, or with a known allergy to the toxin. A dental assessment is also requested where a bite problem is suspected.

Aftercare

  • Do not lie down for 4–6 hours and do not massage the area.
  • Avoid hard, chewy food on the first day.
  • Avoid sauna and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
  • Attend your two-week review.
